After the Skegness G.N. last
week in the engine in the f2 was smoking really badly. Alan stripped the engine
down and found that there was a crack in one of the pistons which was causing
this. So after replacing the piston the engine was then built back up and placed
back in ready for the northampton weekend. The heat was going really well. I
was in 3rd place with 2 laps to go when the engine lost all oil pressure and
the warning light on the dash came on. I switched the engine off straight away
not wanting any engine problems. After the engine had cooled down abit we started
the car up again and the oil pressure was fine so decided to try again in the
Consi and see what happens. About 5 laps in without warning the engine blew
up. After taking the rocker cover off in the pits the camshaft was in at least
3 pieces. Hoping that it had not damaged the bottom end of the engine we took
the head off and turned it over to find that number 1 piston was not moving
at all.
With no back up engine it looked as though we would have no more racing for
that weekend. Andy Ford was parked a couple of places away in the pits and he
kindly offered to lend us his engine for Sunday out of his f2 which Daniel Ford
was racing. We decided to take this offer which meant an early start on Sunday
morning!

With all the un-bolting done on sat night by alan all that was left to do was
lift the engine out and put Andy's engine in. With this done i was in heat 2
and was going fairly well until i was on the outside of some reds and blues
and got put in the fence resulting in a broken half shaft. With this repaired
and a few adjusts made to help the handling of the car i was placed in consolation
1. I was leading when the yellows came out with about 6 laps to go because of
and oil spillage on the track. I pulled away slightly at the start and held
the lead for the win which made the work of changing the engine over alittle
worth while. I was about 8th in the final until i was on the outside of a red
top train and went to hit the brake going into a bend and hit both the accelerator
and the brake at the same time! Which ended up with me hitting the fence and
with another broken half shaft.
Decided to miss the g.n and began to get the engine out to give back to Andy
Ford.
Big thanks to Andy and Danny Ford for the use
of the engine on Sunday.
